Snowstorm preparation checklist

Be prepared before a severe winter storm with double digit snowfall totals starts falling. You want to stay safe at home during this period and avoid being on the road or caught outside when the storm really kicks in. Don’t be afraid of the storm. No need to fear it if you are well prepared which of course you will be with our Snowstorm Preparation Checklist!

Inside

  • Food
    • Quick and easy things like classic peanut butter and jelly and non-perishables like soup.
    • High energy food; dried fruit, nuts, and canned items.
    • pet food.
  • Baby supplies.
  • Manual can opener.
  • Water (a gallon per person per day).
  • Bottled water (for drinking).
  • Toilet paper.
  • Flashlight.
  • The right batteries for your flash list.
  • A hand-cranked flashlight.
  • Fire extinguishers (still in date).
  • Stock up propane for your gas grill.
  • Warm clothing.
  • Sleeping bags.
  • Hand warmers.
  • Extra blankets.
  • Extra batteries.
  • Candles.
  • Matches and lighters  (be careful!).
  • Extra hats.
  • Extra socks.
  • Extra mittens.
  • Battery-powered radio.
  • Portable battery to charge mobile devices.
  • First aid kit supplies (check out our First Aid Kit Checklist).
  • Check that the snow blower is working in advance.
  • If you have a wood fireplace, stock up on wood and lighters.

Outside

  • Make sure that your rain gutters are clear.
  • Ensure that the roof is well-insulated.
  • If you have a vehicle make sure its winter road worthy, put winter tyres on it.
