During my childhood my family owned a summer house/cottage that was 3 hours away from our suburbia home. Every Friday we’d leave for the cottage after school/work, stay for the weekend and then head home on Sunday evening. Throughout the summer we’d take long weekends and perhaps a week or two when possible. As an adult I now repeat that process as we have a beautiful sailboat moored down on the south coast. You’d think that I’d be an expert at packing by now, but inevitably every time we visit the boat I forget something! Last week it was my make-up bag. Finally – I created a weekend packing checklist so that I can always remember everything every time! Now – I just need to get a pad full of these.
Sometimes I’m not sure what the weather is going to do, so I pack layers. For example, I’ll have jeans and shorts knowing I’ll wear one or the other depending on how warm it is. Also – I always pack an extra outfit…just in case! Finally, I often think about what shoes I want to wear and plan my outfits around that one pair of shoes. And I might throw in a pair of flip-flops too! So…here’s a list for a short weekend break away from home:
