New Puppy Checklist

Here’s a new puppy checklist if you’re thinking about getting one! Getting a new puppy is a big commitment that yourself and your family will hopefully decide to undertake after a lot of consideration and preparation. Take a look at the checklist below to make sure you are really ready for your new four-legged friend.

It is best to research points such as training classes beforehand so that you can be sure they offer the best training for yourself and your puppy.

New Puppy Checklist

  • Time – A puppy will need a lot of time invested in them.
  • Finances – Consider if your puppy was to need unforeseen veterinary treatment; will you be able to afford it?
  • Crate.
  • Blanket/s.
  • Toys.
  • Water bowl.
  • Food bowl.
  • Training pads.
  • Collar and lead.
  • Local vet to register with.
  • Local puppy training classes.
  • Time – A puppy will need a lot of time invested in them.
  • Finances – Consider if your puppy was to need unforeseen veterinary treatment; will you be able to afford it?
  • Car crate.
  • Portable water bottle.
  • Hi-viz collar or jacket for the winter months.
  • A warm dog jacket for the winter months.
  • Towels – for cleaning his feet after walks.
  • Pet friends – research how to best introduce your new puppy to existing family pets.
  • Food.
  • Insurance.
  • Micro-chipping service.

Vaccines

  • Distemper, Parvo, Corona, Hepatitis, and Parainfluenza – these are often combined into a single vaccine.  
  • Rabies, a shot which initially requires annual boosters.
